What should I do when I get to class? Turn your homework into the APES box at the front table Find your assigned seat and sit in it Get out your notebook and label it for the day Look to the front of the room for your DO NOW Complete your DO NOW in your notebook independently

Why should you teach my APES? B.S. In Biology with a focus on microbial ecology and a minor in chemistry at the University of Illinois Springfield Worked in an ecology laboratory analyzing chemical compositions of fresh water samples from the Illinois River

What will we do in this class? The AP Environmental Science course is a full-year course designed to be the equivalent of a one-semester, introductory college course in environmental science. Using an interdisciplinary approach, including biology, chemistry, earth science, social studies, and statistics, students will prepare themselves for the AP examination at Akins High School in May. To reach this goal, students will use multiple practices, such as collaborative group work, lecture, computer simulations, data analysis, and at least 1 full class period of lab and field work a week.

Why is Environmental Science important? If any of the following topics sound interesting to you, a strong environmental background is needed to be successful in a career that has to do with it.

What are your expectations in this class? Respect Yourself Respect Others Respect Your Environment With your table group take 5 minutes to think of 2 examples of how you can meet each expectation.

Tonight’s Homework Take home the syllabus and safety contract and have your parent or guardian sign both. This will be your first grade Complete reading chapter 1 in your text book Complete the concept questions and turn in next class period. Get a binder or a folder for this class only.
