Flinders University Leadership Project WHAT: Facilitating multiple stakeholder engagement in research project: www.bridgingthegap.edu.au HOW: Develop a collaborative approach between professional and academic colleagues to lead and facilitate multiple stakeholder engagement using a pilot research project designed to better connect science education with the real world The project involves exposing student science teachers to an industry engagement experience and using that to inform their teaching practicum with a view to creating more interest in STEM

AIMS Build relationships - internal and external Improve the quality of the research - professional and academic input - particularly in terms of client engagement Secure the research $ - both for now, and potentially for future years Deliver successful presentation to FULP

WHAT HAPPENED? I do not have line-leadership role - collaboration element in my project choice First topic was not possible - I got lucky Timing – very short timeframe Funding shortfall re the project - able to quickly negotiate co-investment Required quickly setting up internal and external networks - particularly regarding industry engagement Required very effective communication strategy - great team, lateral thinking, effective website

Excellent to meet you all, and understand more about how other parts of Flinders operate More communication is better than less and having good tools to communicate helps Leadership through negotiation and cooperation can work very well The higher education sector of the future probably requires innovative leadership ie. new models of leadership are apparent?
