Do’s of grant writing Do… Call with questions Proofread your work Explain how your idea is creative & innovative Spell out acronyms the first time they are used in your application Be sure to discuss the idea with your Principal from the beginning of the process Include Shipping & Handling costs in your budget Choose from approved vendors on the KISD Purchasing website

Don’ts of Grant Writing Request money for substitutes, salaries, water ponds after-school programs or technology items already funded by the District Identify your campus or staff in the text of the grant, ( the campus name may only appear on the cover page) Wait until the last minute to submit your application, give yourself plenty of time to research & review.

What Happens If the Original Recipient Leaves or Moves to Another Campus? If the grant recipient applied as an individual and moves to another campus within KISD, and the recipient is still teaching the same subject where the grant materials are applicable, the recipient may take the materials with him/her If a team member was part of a collaborative group who won the award and moves to another campus, the materials stay with the original campus If the Grant Recipient leaves KISD, the materials stay at the original KISD campus
