Presentation transcript:

4th Semester Review sensory details 1.Writers use_______________ to help us see, hear and smell a scene they describe. 2.What are similes? Similes compare two things, using the words like or as  3. Use similes to describe your parents.

Today, we will 1. Learn what is meant by personification. 2. Find out how to use personification when writing riddles. 3. Use personification to write a description of an animal.

What is personification?

This place is full of bigness the dog is big, the masters foot is big Just A Mouse   By Barbara Gorelick This place is full of bigness the dog is big, the masters foot is big And I am small, a mouse, a house mouse   I scurry about in the dark crumbs are beautiful things, I eat But I feel small, a mouse, a house mouse I am warm and dry, but afraid I live my life afraid, of their bigness, of the cat, of hunger, of being caught The little girl smiled... She said, a little darling, cutest thing! Mama, look a mouse.. I am not a thinker, simple me Just a mouse, a house mouse.... In this example, we can say that personification is used by making the mouse the story teller. Mice don’t talk, so the poem meets the criteria of ‘giving human like qualities to objects/animals/things that are not human’.

D. Writing Write a paragraph about an animal, using personification. Write as if you were the animal. I have a wonderful life. When the sun rises, my owner appears to feed me. First, a bowl of crunchy biscuits are poured out, which I eat like a little piggy in a nano- second. Then, my water bowl is filled and I take a good slurp. After that, we leave for a walk through the village. This is my favourite time of day. I feel as happy as larry as I sniff the grass, run and chase things. Often I chase my ball and bring it back to my owner. I do this many times. It is fantastic fun. After about thirty minutes I come back to my home and watch the morning news with my family. Then, they go to work. I want to tell you what I do when nobody is around but that is a big secret.

Today, we learnt about…
