Online Parking Lot Please go to engageny.org/maynti and select “Online Parking Lot” for any NYSED related questions. For CKLA questions during training, please go to todaysmeet.com/K-2ela. Thank You! Key Points: Presenter’s Notes: Remind participants of this protocol. Say: EngageNY.org 3 © 2012 Core Knowledge Foundation. A Few Additional Points… Facilitators around the room Signal for regrouping Key Points: Introduction of presenters Protocols for getting attention, taking breaks, etc. Presenter’s Notes: Finally, I want to introduce a number of people from our team that I have with me today, and then I am going to let Kate introduce our special guest, David Liben. In terms of my team, let me introduce Alice Wiggins, Diane Tureski, Khara Turnbull, Jamie Talbot, and Emma Earnst. If you feel lost or feel that the Parking Lot is not sufficient for a particular issue, you may find one of the members of the team for a hallway conversation. Again, these folks know what is being covered, so if they feel your question will get answered, or is best answered in another segment of the training, they will make note of it for the Parking Lot. If they cannot answer your question, they will take it back to me or someone who can. Finally, our last norm of the day: When we are doing a breakout or table activity, rather than shouting at you when we need to regroup, I will just raise my hand. I would like you to raise your hand and stop talking when you see me, as that is the quickest, and quietest way, for us to regroup. EngageNY.org ©2012 Core Knowledge Foundation. Overwhelm the Problem Session 1: The Three Pillar Model EngageNY.org Key Points: Introduce David Liben This session will be taped for turnkey. David will discuss the three pillar model using his own slides. Note: The hidden slides are what we expect him to say and are available for turnkey purposes, but we will not present on these. Session 1: Overwhelm the Problem David Liben, from Student Achievement Partners discusses the context for the curricular change to P-2 ELA instruction and presents an organizing framework--the Three Pillar Model-- for a comprehensive language arts approach, which is consistent with the best knowledge we have from research and the intent behind the CCLS standards. Session Objective(s):  Participants will be able to articulate key reasons that language arts curricula must shift within the CCLS context (i.e., will articulate what is meant by “overwhelm” the problem). Participants will be able to identify the Three Pillars of a comprehensive ELA program. Participants will be able to accurately identify the purpose of each Pillar in terms of young children’s language arts development.   EngageNY.org ©2012 Core Knowledge Foundation.
