% Concentration Definition: The percent of the solution that is solute. Units: Mass in grams (g); Volume in millilitres (mL). Analogy: Your grade on a test is the percent of the test that you got correct. There are 100 questions on the test = The solution is 100g Your got 45 correct answers = The amount of solute is 45g = 45% correct = 45% of solution is solute

How do we calculate this? The concentration formula does not change. It is only the units that have changed. Look at the values given and their units and convert to the required units. Then you can solve your problems as you have done previously.

Examples: 1) 0.045g of solute was added to 1200g of solvent. What is the concentration in ppm? Solute = 0.045g = 45mg Solvent = 1200g = 1.2kg
