Flipping your Classroom using KidBlog

With a show of hands How many Full Circle Technology classroom teachers are in here? How many applied this year for the Full Circle Grant? How much technology is available in your classroom?

What is KidBlog?

Getting started Go to KidBlog.org Sign up for a 30 day trial (It costs $8 per month or $36 a year) Click on Teachers

Setting up your class Click on Create Class You will need to add your students into the class and give them a password. (one that is easy to remember) All student passwords are the same for us. (book12) If your partner teacher already has set up a class, then use the “join code” instead of giving students a separate login and password.

General Information Click on the “K” (Dashboard) to see all your classes You can change the avatar for each class. KidBlog works best for you and your students in Google Chrome. (You can install Chrome on your device, but not student devices. This has to be done by the district techs.)

Changing Class settings General Gives you the link you need to give parents Themes You change the look of the class with pictures This is where you set up the “side bars” (links, notes, etc. that you always want students or parents to see) Users This is where you add students and set up the join codes Privacy Where you decide who can see your posts and see the comments We have comments set to “be approved”

Creating a New Post Add a header. (related to what the post is) Enter a title. Fill in the post. Change fonts. Change colors. You can bold and underline, just like in other word processing programs. You can hyperlink a web link to take students straight to the link. You can upload pictures, files, or videos.

How do we use KidBlog? My Science instruction is completely paperless. All assignments are “pushed out” to students via KidBlog Students complete assignments via KidBlog Students answer questions, write journal entries, research, watch videos and respond, read articles and respond in comments in KidBlog.

Kidblog in ELA and SS ELA Anchor Charts SS Essays

How do I use KidBlog in a First Grade Classroom? Students can track the books they are reading using an Excel Survey. Students can blog about the books they are reading. The teacher and students can comment on blog posts about books. KidBlog motivates my students not only to read, but to write and respond about what they are reading.

Logging into KidBlog with First Graders Students go to our classroom website and click on the KidBlog tab to go to the login screen. From there they find their name and log in using the secure password that I have set for them.

What they do…

Blogging about what they are reading…

Blogging about what they are reading…

Blogging about what they are reading…

Why KidBlog? It does not depend on updates from the school district or technology department Not as complicated as Schoology and other learning management systems Everything is in one place without folders, links, etc. You can have up to 200 student accounts The students learn quickly to login, post comments, write new posts, change colors, avatars, etc. (They will actually teach you things.)

Why KidBlog? (according to KidBlog)
