After the Election After the election – the Electoral College meets in their state capitals to cast their ballots in December. In January – Congress counts the Electoral votes & a winner is officially declared. If no candidate wins the majority of electoral votes, the House of Representatives will choose the President with one vote for each state.

Term of Office Four year term Each president followed Washington’s lead of only two terms until 1940. FDR ran for a third term in 1940 & a fourth term in 1944. 22nd Amendment was passed in 1951 limiting terms to two.
