MediaWiki May 2017 Mediawiki

Mediawiki platform It is free software open source wiki packages written in PHP originally for use on Wikipedia. It is now also used by several other projects of non-profit Wikimedia foundation and by many other wikis. In addition to the software itself, a standard MediaWiki installation has the following requirements: A web server is required to serve the requested pages to the client browser. PHP is required to run the software. A database server is required to store the pages and site data. Copyright 2017 Accenture. All rights reserved.

System requirements MediaWiki requires PHP 5.5.9+ and either MySQLManual:MySQL 5.0.2+, MariaDB, or one of the other three possible stores. Copyright 2017 Accenture. All rights reserved.

pros We can easily manage and find content. It supports editing, Formatting and referencing. we can change the look and feel as per our preference. Content management and sharing. (File upload) Multilanguage support means UTF-8 support allows one piece of software to author for all languages. User management: Access and security control. Syndication: Share your site info Users can configure their time zone which is used on all report timestamps. Copyright 2017 Accenture. All rights reserved.

Continue.. 9. The attributes of many report pages (number of result etc.) can be set in the user preferences. 10. It run on standard, inexpensive hosting. 11. MediaWiki is highly optimized for performance and distributing content on hundreds of servers (which is needed for Wikipedia) Copyright 2017 Accenture. All rights reserved.

Cons It doesn’t integrate with corporate logins. There is no Outlook integration. No Useful Rich Text Editor. No Localization Options. No Charting Functionality. Tables, import and blogging… MediaWiki doesn't offer forums, bug tracker, blogs, etc. some of the plugins/extensions may have become abandoned or be incompatible with the new version. MediaWiki usually handles multiple languages by having separate installs Copyright 2017 Accenture. All rights reserved.

Conclusion: One possibility, if you like Visual Basic, is to combine MediaWiki with vbadvanced, vbulletin, mediawiki, and vbwikipro. Vbulletin allows you to have forums and blogs, along with e- commerce possibilities and social networking. VBAdvanced handles all your CMS issues, add modules, and allow you to integrate all types of pages (such as flash, php, and html apps). Then you can add MediaWiki and the vbulletin bridge, which would be vbwikipro. For a public wiki, MediaWiki is the right choice. If, however the goal is to promote collaboration and knowledge exchange across projects, the selection decision after weighing all facts is decidedly against MediaWiki. The other options offer better functionality. Copyright 2017 Accenture. All rights reserved.
