Whitney Houston, January 27, 1991 http://youtu.be/Z1QmeEdFOSc This video was recorded at the now demolished Tampa Stadium for Super Bowl XXV in 1991. A single of the performance was later released to raise funds for soldiers and families of those involved in the Persian Gulf War. Houston donated her portion of the proceeds.

Jimi Hendrix Woodstock, August 17, 1969 During the final set of the historic Woodstock music festival (attended by mostly counterculture young Americans, including many Vietnam War protestors), Jimi Hendrix let loose with a rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner on electric guitar that's been called the most important political rock statement of the 1960s. http://youtu.be/wt3cYpFLJiM

Roseanne Barr http://youtu.be/ls1YVhcLD2c Roseanne Barr is a comedienne, famous for her "fierce working-class domestic goddess" persona. Controversy arose when she sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" off-key at a 1990 nationally aired baseball game, followed by grabbing her crotch and spitting.
