DAF Overview What does DAF stand for? How does it work? Dissolved Air Flotation How does it work? Uses microscopic air bubbles dissolved into the process stream to help float suspended solids or fats, oils, and greases. When should DAF technology be used? Whenever the suspended solids have a specific gravity of close to or less than 1.0 If particles have difficulty settling or are naturally inclined to float.

Refinery Applications Dissolved Nitrogen Flotation (DNF) Units Explosive Environment Due to the high VOC content in refinery process wastewaters, state and federal regulations usually require that the units be covered. Because the cover traps and concentrates the VOCs inside the unit, it is not safe to use compressed air (due to its oxygen content) for the pressurization system. The use of compressed air with a covered unit would create a highly explosive environment. Instead, nitrogen is compressed and dissolved into the recycle stream.
