UH-60 BLACKHAWK Drop Speed: Optimum 70 knots (Min: 65 knots; Max : 75 knots). Min. jump altitude: 1500 ft AGL. A/C PREPARATION Ensure seats and seatbelts are removed from the cargo compartment. Tape cargo floor troop seat and tie down fitting wells in front of cargo doors. Tape any sharp edges and tie down fitting wells on the floor and door jams. Tape the weather stripping on cargo doors below the door catch. Tape up to 18-24 inches from the cargo compartment. Ensure three floor mounted safety belts are installed. (from AC) Ensure a floor mounted anchor line system is installed. (aka Donut)

UH-60 FLOOR MOUNTED ANCHOR LINE SYSTEM [para 17-50] Can be locally manufactured if necessary. (type XXVII nylon webbing) Install four connector snaps with safety wires and eight D-rings with buffers on the anchor line, with the snap connector rings and D- Rings facing out in the following order: one connector snap, four D- rings; two connector snaps, four d-rings; and one connector snap. Insert 30 inches of the anchor line running end into the quick fit adapter. Center the anchor line system on the floor with the quick fit adapter to the rear and the connector snaps facing up. Attach the connector snaps then insert the safety wires and tape the connector snaps. Center the quick fit adapter between the rear cargo tie downs and tighten the anchor line by pulling on the free running end. Secure the free running end by fold and tape excess webbing to the rear of the anchor line between the connector snaps.

A/C INSPECTION & PREPARATION Ensure doors are locked open (or functioning if flying doors closed.) Secure loose objects. Ensure the anchor line cable system is serviceable and properly installed. Tape and pad anything remaining that could cut or fray static lines or snag equipment. Ensure three serviceable seatbelts are installed on the cargo floor. Ensure that there is a headset/helmet and intercom jack for the JM and that it is operational, with the cord stowed overhead. Ensure safety harnesses/emergency parachutes are available for the JM and the crew chief as required. If using safety harnesses, the JM’s safety line will be connected to tie down fitting 5B, with the crew chief attached to 1A or 1D. (aft of the 1st/5th jumpers.)

JUMP COMMANDS MOTIVATOR As a JM, you will give a sequence of nine jump commands to ensure positive control of parachutists in the aircraft and immediately before exiting. Each command requires specific actions by each parachutist and when executed properly, ensure a safe exit from the aircraft. These commands are given verbally but, as a backup, hand and arm signals are also used with each command due to engine noise. The signals must be smooth, coordinated, and PRECISELY executed.

JUMP COMMANDS “GET READY” First Jump Command AC will pass “4 minutes” over ICS. This command alerts the parachutists seated in the aircraft and directs their attention to the JM. The safety belt will then be removed when directed by the JM (above 1000ft AGL). The running ends are stowed forward to be clear of the static lines and exit path. NOTE: Ensure the paratroopers maintain positive control of the safety belt at all times until the JM secures the running ends.
JUMP COMMANDS “CHECK STATIC LINES” Second Jump Command At this time the JM checks the routing of all static lines from the pack tray to the anchor cable in sequence to ensure they are correctly routed and hooked up. The JM ensures the excess static line is stowed bottom to top through the slack retainer on the packs of jumpers 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7, and that jumpers 4 and 8 have the prescribed reverse bight in their static lines

JUMP COMMANDS “CHECK EQUIPMENT” Third Jump Command The parachutists will check their equipment The JM needs to watch the parachutists to ensure that they complete their proper checks and there are no issues The JM will wait until the parachutists are finished before they go on to the next command
“SOUND OFF FOR EQUIPMENT CHECK” JUMP COMMANDS Fourth Jump Command “SOUND OFF FOR EQUIPMENT CHECK” All jumpers indicate orally (and with a hand signal “thumbs up on top of the helmet” to the JM) the status of their equipment Parachutists make eye to eye contact with JM and maintain positive reserve chute control.
JUMP COMMANDS The JM acknowledges each individual jumper’s hand signal in sequence (squeeze the “thumbs up”). The JM then conducts the initial outside air safety check out the left side of the AC. The crew chief or safety (if used) will check out the right side of the aircraft. The JM then continues to observe for reference points.
JUMP COMMANDS “ONE MINUTE” When the AC comes on line with the first reference point, the JM announces “ONE MINUTE”, checks jumpers, then safety, and continues to observe for the next reference point. If flying doors closed, coordinate opening of AC doors over Helo ICS. Maintain positive control of the door until locked in the fully opened position.
JUMP COMMANDS “SIT IN THE DOOR” Fifth Jump Command The command is given by the JM at the 30-second time warning. Jumpers 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7 assume door positions with feet together outside the cargo compartment. Jumpers 4 and 8 remain in place, ensuring their feet are clear of their static lines. NOTE: This command is omitted if the parachutists are already sitting in the door.
JUMP COMMANDS “THIRTY SECONDS” If parachutists are already sitting in the door, the JM will pass the 30 second time advisory to the jumpers When the AC comes on line with the second reference point, the JM announces “THIRTY SECONDS”
JUMP COMMANDS “STAND BY” Sixth Jump Command 10-second time warning upon hearing “with 8 jumpers- stand by” over the communications headset. The JM ensures that all parachutists hear and understand this command, particularly jumper 1, who places both hands, palms down, on the cargo floor along their thighs and awaits the next command. Jumpers 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7 place both their hands, palms down, on the cargo floor along their thighs and await the next command. Jumpers 4 and 8 remain in place.
JUMP COMMANDS “GO” Seventh Jump Command Upon receiving the command “EXECUTE, EXECUTE, EXECUTE” over the communications headset, the JM gives the command “GO” and gives a sharp tap on the rear of the parachutist’s helmet Each parachutist is individually tapped out with a 2 second interval.
JUMP COMMANDS “GO” cont. Seventh Jump Command The jump sequence is in numerical order, 1-8. As soon as jumper 3 clears the door, jumper 4 moves into the door and assumes the door position before being tapped out The static JM assumes control of jumper 4’s static line as the parachutist begins moving to the door Jumpers 5, 6, 7, and 8 repeat the sequence in the left door
JUMP COMMANDS “GO” cont. Seventh Jump Command Once all jumpers have exited, JM will check to the rear for towed jumpers. Count chutes and relay count on helo ICS. “8 GOOD CHUTES” Retrieve d-bags, secure in kit bag, close doors; the JM will not unhook static lines until the aircraft has landed.
