First Grade Homework & Classroom News: Nov. 6th - Nov. 10th Homework Menu: Choose one appetizer and one main course to do for homework every night. If you are still hungry for practice, help yourself to some dessert! Appetizer (5 minutes) Practice any of the listed Daily Math skills Addition or subtraction flash card games Choose a word family word to write in a complete sentence Main Course(15 minutes) Read a “just-right book” to a stuffed animal or a family member for 13 minutes. Spend 2 minutes retelling the story with as many details as possible. Dessert (10 minutes) Write about something new you learned today in your planner Xtra Math Raz-kids (message us on Dojo if you need us to resend log-in information ) Word families Words with long vowel a and soft g/c sounds ake (make, cake) ade (made, grade) ape (grape) ate (plate, date) ame (came, flame) cent, city giraffe, page Daily Math skills: Doubles facts (6+6=12) and using them to solve unfamiliar facts (6+7=13) write addition sentences and solve within 20 in the horizontal and also the vertical format Create your own story problems using addition within 20 and have someone in your family solve them! Write a fact family for a set of numbers (3+4=7 4+3=7 7-3=4 7-4=3) STEM focus and Words of the week Questions: How can we share our ideas with others? How to engineers and scientists publish their work? STEM focus: The scientific method -what steps do scientists follow when planning and conducting an experiment?

A note from the teachers… Homework and Newsletter Nov. 6th - Nov. 10th A note from the teachers… Last week was full of so much fun and learning! We are so thankful for all of the Fall station volunteers and we were impressed with the turnout for the Fall festival! Innovation Academy has the most wonderful families! This week we are focusing on reading and writing words with long vowel a. The spelling we are focusing on is the silent e (a_e). We are also practicing identification of causes and effects in stories. In Math, we are finishing a unit on addition strategies within 20 and will be taking the assessment at the beginning of next week. As always, thank you for trusting us with your wonderful kids!
