Taking the Reins as Arts Leader Today’s Agenda KNOW what it means to be an arts leader at your school UNDERSTAND what’s in the State of the Arts report and how to use it as an arts leader DO Create a presentation deck to effectively advocate for the arts in your school

Presentation Template Walkthrough IMPORTANT: Modify this template as you see fit! Take out anything irrelevant and add anything you feel is relevant to your school or your situation. Presentation is divided into sections that roughly correspond with your different duties as an Arts Liaison (lead, connect, inspire) - see icons throughout. Presentation contains high-level information on important items that your leadership impacts, like the Creative Schools Certification process, Arts Essentials, and the Creative Schools Fund.

Participate in schoolwide events Family nights (Reading, Math, Science, STEM), Science (STEM) fairs, neighborhood walks, assemblies, incentive programs, etc. Join school committees Instructional Leadership Team, Continuous Improvement Work Plan Team, Culture and Climate Team, Grade Level Team, etc. Present State of the Arts data to your fellow educators School Improvement Days (Feb 2 or April 13), committee meetings, LSC/PAC meetings

2016-17 Arts Partnerships There continues to be an opportunity to expand the reach of community arts partners and the types of programming they offer

2016-17 Arts Partnerships Students attending schools that are highly rated on the CSC are not only more likely to benefit from partnerships with community arts partners, they are also more likely to reap the rewards of sustained partnerships.

SoTA for Advocacy Figure out which data points are most important to you Share the data with colleagues, your department, students, and school leadership Connect with your Aldermen and other local representatives to share the data and advocate for arts education support Request time in the upcoming LSC, PTA, and parent engagement arm of your school Integrate key data points into programs, or use as talking points before or after a culminating event with a specific ask Share your impact stories with Ingenuity, CPS Arts, and via social media Engage with your peers to gain insight, strategies, and support in advocating for your programs
