AMENDMENT PROCEDURE Quick Review of Resolution & Amendment Process: Sponsors Read Operative Clauses of Draft Resolution Sponsors Take Five Points of Interest 5-10 Minute Moderated Caucus to Discuss Resolution 5-10 Minute UnModerated Caucus to Write Amendments Lather, Rinse, Repeat for 2nd Resolution

IT IS OKAY IF NO RESOLUTION PASSES! Remember, it’s about the climb... VOTING PROCEDURE HOW DO WE PASS THESE THINGS?! DAIS POSITION ASSIGNMENTS

CONFERENCE ROOM POSITIONS & EQUIPMENT Six Positions Per Conference Room Team Chair, Director, Rapporteur, Staff, Helper, Evaluator (2) Also need a Photographer & Copy-Master Conference Room Equipment: Debate script(s) Name tags Gavel (anyone happen to have one??) Stopwatch (Cell Phone) Paper to take notes Staff to bring laptop & pen drive

CHAIR General organization of committee, moderator, note receiver DISCLAIMER: NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART General organization of committee, moderator, note receiver Short speech to introduce topic and shorter speech at closing ceremonies Explain rules (confusing points/motions) Set/open Speaker’s List Call on delegates to speak Moderate caucuses (take notes, guide debate, keep order, open and close debate) Guide the delegates in connecting their ideas during debate Be a big ball of encouragement!

DIRECTOR —Guide delegates thru resolution & amendment writing process Explain resolutions (sponsors & signatories) Combine draft resolutions Approve draft resolutions —Introduce draft resolutions to the floor —Oversee any amendments

RAPPORTEUR —Keep time (speakers, caucuses, etc.) —Call roll (attendance) —Keep time (speakers, caucuses, etc.) —Runs Roll Call and voting procedure —Must have a stopwatch/timer!

STAFF Assist delegates on the floor —Type and edit resolutions (grammar/spelling) —Write speakers list names on the board Fast typing skills is a BIG + —Conference set-up at Acacias (must get there early!)

HELPER —Pass (appropriate) notes between delegates —Assist delegates on the floor —Pass (appropriate) notes between delegates —Help DAIS with any other duties

EVALUATOR Two per room Ideally combo of Fulbrighters + Collaborating Professors Preferred past experience with rubric grading. Organization skills are a plus! **We will be revising the evaluation survey and sending it to you as soon as possible. This will be the main determining factor in advancement. (Only the top 20 schools total from the three days go on to the final round! )

COPY-MASTER & PHOTOGRAPHER Copy-Master will be in charge of ensuring the proper collection, printing, copying, and distribution of Resolutions. Amongst other things... Photographer will be in charge of, you guessed it, TAKING PHOTOS! If you have any experience taking semi-professional photos, we would love for you to volunteer! Should have a nice personal camera.

DAIS ROLE SIGN-UPS Emailed Survey: Rank your choices 1-8 Any past Model UN experience? (Explain) For Chair ONLY: How do you see yourself fit for this position? Respond to the survey NO LATER than Tuesday November 18th! No Position will allow you to work in the same room as your students. **We’ll have a separate meeting with Chairs/Directors and evaluators in January. **

SETTING UP A MOCK CONFERENCE Make as authentic as possible: Student wear business casual Make placards and nametags Have student folders Incorporate it into their final grade Have students self-evaluate (surveys, follow-up discussion) Why have a mock conference?? Gets everyone in the class involved! Helps evaluate what students still need to improve Puts into practice everything they´ve worked on for months
