The Nature of God YHWH (over 6500x) “LORD” Known as the tetragrammaton (“four letters”). YHWH was the Hebrew word for God that was too sacred to be spoken aloud by the Jews. Transliterated into English as Jehovah or Yahweh. Exodus 3:13-15 (“I AM” from hayah “to be”) Adhonay is rendered as Lord. YHWH is rendered as LORD or LORD.

The Nature of God JEHOVAH SABAOTH “THE LORD OF HOSTS” Denotes God’s universal sovereignty over every army, both spiritual and earthly. 1 Samuel 17:45 “You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have taunted.” “If God is for us, who can be against us?”

The Nature of God JEHOVAH RAAH “THE LORD MY SHEPHERD” Found in the famous Psalm 23. JEHOVAH JIREH “THE LORD WILL PROVIDE” Found in Genesis 22:14 where Abraham gave a symbolic name to Mount Moriah after God provided the substitute sacrifice to take the place of Isaac.

The Nature of God THE WORD ELOHIM IS PLURAL When Elohim is used to refer to false gods, it is translated in the plural sense as “gods.” But when Elohim is used to refer to the one true God, it is treated grammatically as singular. Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD.”

The Nature of God SO WHY IS ELOHIM PLURAL? Because it refers to more than just the Father. Genesis 1:26 “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness.’”

He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.”

Known by many names: Lord, Savior, Jesus, Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed One.

The Nature of God CHRIST WAS WITH GOD AND WAS GOD The Father is ELOHIM, and so is the Son. The Father is THEOS, and so is the Son. There is indeed only one true God, but He consists of both the Father and the Son. Both are DIVINE and rightly called GOD!

The Nature of God CHRIST WAS WITH GOD AND WAS GOD Philippians 2:6-8 Christ “existed in the form of God” before He “emptied Himself…” Colossians 2:9 “For in Him (Christ) all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form.” Romans 10:9 “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.”
