Big Bang Theory Research Task 21/09/2018

What does the Big Bang theory try to explain? Use the internet to find out about the Big Bang model of how the Universe began. Use the questions below as a starting point for your research. What does the Big Bang theory try to explain? When was the Big Bang theory suggested? Why do scientists think that the Big Bang is the most likely model for how our Universe began? What part did Edwin Hubble play in the development of this theory?

5. Compare and contrast 2 early models of the Universe. Feature Ptolemy’s model Copernicus’ model   When was it developed? What was the main idea? What evidence was used to support it? What was wrong with the model?

Find out what scientific development helped Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) to make observations to support one of these models and why this caused the Catholic Church to place him under house arrest Later two scientists called Johannes Kepler (1571–1630) and Isaac Newton (1642–1727) made some refinements to this model of our Universe. What were these additions to the model?

8. Big Bang Theory Research Task Create a poster in Publisher explaining the evidence for the Big Bang:- How did the Universe Start? What is Red Shift and how does this provide evidence of an expanding Universe? What is the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation and where do scientists think it came from? How do scientists estimate the age of the Universe and its starting point? How do scientific theories about the Universe become widely accepted?

EXTENSION Using powerpoint or movie maker make an animation to explain the Big Bang Theory and the supporting evidence.
