Take out your “All About Me” newspaper and be ready to turn it in when the bell rings.

What is an emotion? An emotion is neither positive or negative. “An emotion is a feeling produced in response to a life event.” An emotion is neither positive or negative. It’s how we cope with them that matters.

You might not always know exactly what you’re feeling and why. It’s important to learn how to identify your emotions. Once you do, you can think of healthy strategies for dealing with them.

Let’s practice. Identify what emotion each face is expressing.

Expressing your emotions People with good emotional health feel a wide range of emotions and share their feelings with others in helpful ways.

The first step Distract yourself. Relaxation techniques distract you from your emotions and negative thinking patterns. Count to 10 Breathe deeply Sing a song Visualize yourself in a peaceful place

The third step Take a time-out. Get a drink of water or take a walk, and use your extra energy in a productive way. During your timeout, evaluate your thoughts. Are they rational? Try to look at the situation from the other person’s point of view.
