Qt. 4 Vocabulary

Alliteration The repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of several words.

Climax The high point or most exciting point in a story.

Conflict The struggle faced by the main character.

Exposition The first part of a typical story’s plot.

Falling Action The stage in the plot when the story begins to draw to a close.

Main Idea The central idea in a story.

Mood The feeling or atmosphere that a writer creates for the reader.

Plot The sequence of events that make up the action of a story.

1st Person Point of View The vantage point from which a story is told using the pronouns I, me, us and we outside of the quotations.

3rd Person Omniscient The vantage point from which a story is told using the pronouns she, he, and they outside of the quotations. Knows all.

Resolution The ending of a story.

Rhyme The repetition of the same sounds at the end of the words.

Rising Action The stage in the plot that develops the struggle.

Setting The time and place the events of a story occur.

Simile A comparison of two things essentially unlike using the words like and as. She is as sharp as a tack.

Stanza A group of two or more lines that form a unit in a poem.
