Fourth progress report on cohesion June 2006 The Growth and Jobs Strategy and the Reform of European cohesion policy

The report contains 2 parts Analysis of economic and social disparities in the enlarged EU Recent developments in cohesion policy Structure

Regional disparities 10% of EU27 population living in the most prosperous regions (19% of total EU-27 GDP) 1.5% for the 10% of population living in the least wealthy regions Convergence regions - 12½% total share in EU27 GDP with 35% population share several regions in Romania and Bulgaria with GDP per head below 25% of the EU average GDP Also regional disparities in R&D and ICT access

Budget execution 2005 – record levels of commitments In 2005 € 27,1 billion committed under the ERDF, Cohesion Fund, and ISPA For the four Structural Funds, Cohesion Fund and ISPA, payments made in 2005 reached more than € 33 billion. For 2004-2005, new Member States have seen the same rate of execution as EU15 in 2000-2002.
