Presentation transcript:

Volcano A volcano is a rupture in the crust of a planetary-mass object, such as Earth, that allows hot lava, volcanic ash, and gases to escape from a magma chamber below the surface.

Desert Definition: A large, dry, barren region, usually having sandy or rocky soil and little or no vegetation. Water lost to evaporation and transpiration in a desert exceeds the amount of precipitation; most deserts average less than 25 cm (9.75 inches) of precipitation each year, concentrated in short local bursts.

Canyon A canyon a deep valley with steep sides that often has a stream or river flowing through it. The Grand Canyon is famous because it is the largest canyon in the U.S. and has well-preserved layers of rock that tell us about North America’s geological history. Geologic process – it was created by the Colorado River both weathering and eroding the rock and soil.

Mountain Range (Mid Atlantic ridge) a line of mountains connected by high ground. The Mid-Atlantic Range is a north-south suboceanic ridge in the Atlantic Ocean from Iceland to Antarctica on whose crest are several groups of islands; shown by plate tectonics to be the axis along which North America has split away from Eurasia, and along which South America has split away from Africa.
