Computer Literacy Pilot Spring 2007

Computer Literacy Assessment Development of a pilot to measure student’s proficiency in basic computer skills. The following subjects were measured: Familiarity with the WINDOWS environment Ability to Navigate/Search the Internet and use email including sending attachments Create documents using MS Word software package Create spreadsheets using MS Excel software package Create presentations using a MS PowerPoint software package. Computer Litearcy Pilot

Assessing student’s performance Prentice Hall Train & Assess IT web-based software This software measures student’s proficiency in MS Windows and Office Applications It also enables the instructor to create lessons and tests from a data base Students taking the test in Train & Assess, will be able to answer the questions by actually performing the tasks within a simulation of the actual application.

The following steps were followed: Set up accounts to enable students to have access to the test Developed test Prepared student’s hand out on how to access the software and providing user and password for accessing. Created PowerPoint to enable students to be familiar with the testing interface Computer Litearcy Pilot

Eighteen 100 Level classes were scheduled for testing. . . Continuation Eighteen 100 Level classes were scheduled for testing. Ten 200 Level classes were scheduled for testing. Students took the test under the supervision of Prof. Hui Mei Cheng. Produced reports with class results Produced Question Analysis Reports for 100 Level classes.
