What is SNAP E & T ? “Scholarship” program with $$ US FDA to CT DSS DSS MxCC for career courses Training courses = making good $$ Gain career skills, raise overall well being and quality of life for a family DSS expects you to get a job after finishing course. Will check employment with Dept. of Labor by SSN (affects decisions on benefits)

Why this program ? A few reasons : Show responsibility & good work habits Practice time/work management Improve communication skills Grow computer and problem solving skills Understand personal strengths and weaknesses It never hurts to develop a career reference !

Application requirements Active email address and read daily College and workplaces communicate by email and Me too – no phone/text US Citizen (picture ID & Soc. Sec No.) SNAP recipient the entire course Can perform physical requirements of the training (lifting, standing)

Requirements Not receive TANF (cash) GED/high school diploma or higher Pass placement tests Math and English levels HS senior level – info sheet on back table to schedule http://mxcc.edu/bsa/prep/. Exempt from testing if passed college level Math/English courses (show transcript)

Requirements Will not enroll you in training programs if cannot be legally employed. No felonies or failed urine drug screen. We check CT Judicial database for background Employers do not usually want to see any convictions (esp. healthcare) Commitment 10 to 12 weeks – think about transportation & childcare. Juggle tests, classes, clinical sites for health care classes.

Summer 2018 Courses SECURITY GUARD PHLEBOTOMY One day on June 9th Written exam at the end of the day No placement testing but need literacy Over $150 in fees after course to be certified at your expense Competitive – only 2 seats available Mornings Middletown Tues/Thursdays Lab clinical on Saturday mornings ***All health care placements require up to date proof of immunizations, health form & drug screen

Certified Nursing Assistant Certified Nurse Assistant 3 sections in Middletown and Old Saybrook Day and Evening sections Online section also with clinical afternoon/evening Plus clinical at SNFs

Veterinary Assistant starts end of August again Long course for 6 months twice a year Classes on campus eves Clinical at Peiper Olsen animal hospital Saturday (transportation important) Very enjoyable course – do large & small animals https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mUTwiFJPjI.
