Welcome to Riverview Curriculum Night Grade 6 Mrs. Roberts and Mrs. Gahres
Our goal: to provide each student the opportunity to meet all criteria needed to be promoted to the seventh grade. Pass all subject areas on the sixth grade report card. Meet attendance requirements for Brevard County Schools. Score at least a level two in reading on the 2009 FCAT.
Our Curriculum is the Sunshine State Standards! All texts are keyed to the individual subject standards. Outside sources of material are used frequently. Projects and demonstrations are encouraged as evidence of mastery.
Reading/Language Arts Macmillan/McGraw-Treasures Unit tests for units 1, 3, and 5 are used as benchmark tests. Spelling and grammar lessons are keyed to the texts and reference the Sunshine State Standards.
Mathematics MacMillan/McGraw Hill Students are assessed by an inventory test, a November diagnostic, and February diagnostic test, and an end-of-year test. Two workbooks are used: one for daily practice and one for FCAT practice.
Science Scott-Foresman Workbooks are provided for review and practice. Science Fair participation is a requirement. Sometime in November. Hands-on experiences will be provided for the students.
Social Studies Holt Geography (Western Hemisphere), as a tool, is emphasized. Map skills, historical perspective, and regional differences and similarities are explored.
Classroom Management Step one: verbal warning, card turns to blue. Step two: time out in classroom, card turns to yellow, note goes home. Step three: time out in another classroom, card turns to orange, student calls home. Step four: after school detention, card turns to red, student calls home. Severity clause: Office Referral

This binder is going to be your child’s portfolio. In the portfolio your child is going to put his or her work and tests, to show you how they are progressing throughout the year. The teacher will be there, but your child is going to lead the conference.
