Margaret Mead One person cannot solve the problems of the whole country. Gao Ying (Ai Weiwei’s mother) What changes can an individual make?

DEFINING SOCIAL CHANGE Alterations in the way a society is organized and in the beliefs and behaviours of the people who live in it. LEADERSHIP Leadership is one of the most important components for social change to occur. A leader with charisma is key to bring about social change (large vision, magnetic style, strong popular support, etc…).

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. 1. Which of the commandments did he use? 2. Was he successful? Why or why not? 3. How long did it take for his social change to occur? 4. What speeds up social change? What slows it down?

George Dey Said: “It is not enough to believe in something. You must become an activist. If you believe but do not do anything about it you are really doing nothing.” DO YOU AGREE WITH THIS STATEMENT?

Definition: ACTIVIST Someone who takes action towards something they believe in (a cause or social problem)
