Junot díaz Junot Díaz was born in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic on December 31, 1968 (age 48). Díaz has two brothers and two sisters. Raised in New Jersey starting at age 6. Díaz attended Rutgers University and received his bachelors degree in History and Literature. Then pursued his masters in Fine Arts in Creative Writing at Cornell University in 1995.

About “Drown” Drown was Junot Díaz’s first published collection. Published in 1996. Drown illustrates a series of short stories about history, violence, and love of these everyday characters in the book. It is mainly based off a Dominican background, as in the struggle of life in the beginning to moving to the states to make a better life.

No face Pages 153-160 In this short story it establishes a thought on the narrator change as Ysrael and not Yunior, it does not exactly say the name, however it is obvious by the no face and putting on a mask. He is still bullied because of his uncontrolled and un-normal looking flawed face. Also Ysrael has reached a new level of self-confidence for himself over the years by imagining himself as a comic book character. Still is waiting for surgery from the Canadian doctors to fix his face, but the doctors are seeming to wait until there are dysfunctional problems with the nervous system of his brain, eyes, breathing, and his ears.

My thoughts In “ No Face”, I believed that it was a sad chapter knowing that Ysarel was still in the same position almost as he was from when he was a kid. He is still waiting on surgery and still getting bullied. Pretending to be invisible and running down to the church everyday to hide with the groundskeeper “Lou”. I also realized that Ysrael mainly hides in town everyday because his father isn’t in the US, as was said in the chapter “Ysarel”, his father is actually home . The evidence behind that would be when it states“Go, she says. Before your father comes out. He knows what happens when his father comes out (pg. 160).” I assume he does not have a very well relationship with his father if he’s lying to people on where he is.
