Welcome to Back to School! Mr. Parnell – Team Venture – 6th Grade Math Room 106

This year Students will learn: Scope & Sequence: Unit 1 – Number Theory Unit 2 – Expressions & Equations Unit 3 – Ratios & Proportions Unit 4 – Geometry Unit 5 – Statistics

Grading Policy Assessment (Tests/Quizzes/Projects) – 70% 1 test = 2 quizzes Homework – 20% Class Performance – 10% Effort Compliance Behavior Cooperation Participation

5th & 6th Grade Grading Comparison 20% - Homework 50% - Assessments 20% - Classwork 10% - Effort 6th Grade 20% - Homework 70% - Assessments 10% - Class Performance

5th & 6th Grade Grading Comparison Example: Suppose a student performed exactly the same in 5th and 6th grade. Let’s see how the grade weighting affects the students average! 5th Grade: Homework: 100% Classwork: 100% Effort: 100% Test Grades: 86 78 91 64 Test Average of 79.75 5th Grade Final Avg: 100 x .20 = 20 100 x .10 = 10 79.75 x .50 = 39.875 Final Grade: 89.825 or 90% 6th Grade: Homework: 100% Class Performance: 100% Test Grades: 86 78 91 64 Test Average of 79.75 6th Grade Final Avg: 100 x .20 = 20 100 x .10 = 10 79.75 x .70 = 55.825 Final Grade: 85.825 or 86%

GENERAL MATH GRADING RUBRIC HOMEWORK GENERAL MATH GRADING RUBRIC 3 Point Response - shows all complete work (graphs, calculations, tables, pictures…) - answers ALL parts of the question(s) 2 Point Response - shows partial work of the problem(s) - answers most parts of the question(s) 1 Point Response - shows limited to almost no work of the problem(s)  0 Point Response - shows no work or effort Students will earn a 0 for any work that is not turned in on time, with no exceptions. Homework should NOT be done in pen!
