1810-1821 Mexican Independence Little change – rich landowner control

1848 Mexico loses Northern territory to the U.S.A. From California to Texas

Late 1800s American lead economic growth, built railroads/mines

1910 – 1920 Mexican Revolution Gained Democracy, president – became a dictator, more gov. control

1920 – 1950s Land returned to peasants, ejidos – caused poverty – movement to cities

1992 NAFTA signed – lowered trade barriers American manufacturing to Mexico ---- New jobs = more modern/urban life
