Our Goals Objectives Essential Questions Predict characteristics of the Inca based on analyzing problems of their environment and creating solutions to those problems. Who were the Inca, and in what ways were they advanced? How did the Andes Mountains challenge the Inca, and how did the Inca overcome these challenges?

Mesoamerica as complex civilizations What do we already know about the Maya & Aztecs? What can we predict about the Inca? Maya Inca 200 BCE 1500 CE 200 CE 1100 CE Aztecs

Predictions: Who were the Inca? Looking at this image and keeping what you know about the Aztecs & Maya in mind, make at least 5 predictions about the Inca.

Inca Problem Solving Goal: How did the Andes Mountains challenge the Inca? How did the Inca overcome these challenges? Directions: You are the King Pachakuti of the Inca Empire around 1440 CE. Your civilization is quite extensive, spanning almost 2500 miles from tip to tip, consuming approximately 300,000 square miles, and located in the heart of the Andes Mountains. Use the documents provided to understand more about the location of your civilization and the roots of certain problems. Step 1: Where do these problems come from? Or, why is this a problem in your civilization? Step 2: How do you solve that problem to keep your civilization thriving? Why will it work?

Exit Ticket Which of your predictions do you think are correct after analyzing the geography of the Inca? Or, which predictions are you now revising after this introductory analysis? HW: Video Lesson 1.6 – The Inca
