Wally Sample Siobhan O'Sullivan Destiny Pendleton Jordan Massicott The anaconda plan in relation to the Advances in Naval tactics & technology

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaconda_Plan Anaconda plan The Anaconda Plan was a plan made by the union to defeat the Confederacy in the beginning of the civil war. The idea was to take down the rebels by blockading the southern ports and controlling the Mississippi River. General Winfield Scott created the plan at the start of the civil war. In other words, the anaconda plan was a way to cease rebellion and benefit the union by helping them gain power to defeat the confederacy by cutting off sources and materials. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaconda_Plan

Why are landmines immoral? Naval tactics Gabriel J Rains transforms landmines into water mines that work by pressure    Water mines are controversial because landmines were previously deemed immoral, Rains justified that it was for river defense     Francis Lee invents a spar torpedo that places mines for offense instead of defense. Because landmines were considered "cheating" in a way. Even though they were defense mechanisms, they still caused a great deal of damage towards their target.. Why are landmines immoral? https://www.civilwar.org/learn/articles/10-facts-civil-war-navies ; Library of Congress

Naval technology Submarines were invented by the Confederates. Their prototype sinks. Union made sketches. Mounted to a long spar (pole) attached to a small boat, the spar torpedo placed mines in an offensive role. https://www.google.com/search?q=civil+war+naval+technology&rlz=1C1EODB_enUS571US571&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi_ps2t6qXXAhVm2oMKHQVJBO4Q_AUIDCgD&biw=1242&bih=614

People to know  Matthew Fontaine Maury, known as the “Pathfinder of the Seas,” was a scientist and oceanographer before his work with electric mines during the Civil War. ( May have initiated the Confederate use of electric bombs.) Gabriel Rains experimented first with landmines during the Second Seminole War (1835–1842). Rains was transferred to “river defenses” to apply his inventions in waterways when the confederacy mixed the use of landmines for moral reasons. Lieutenant Hunter Davidson took over for Matthew Fontaine Maury when he went to Europe. Confederate Army Captain Francis Lee invented the spar torpedo (mine) in 1862.
