CHIVALRY

Chivalry The evolution of meaning

Chevalier (French), Caballero (Spanish), Cavaliere (Italian) The word Chivalry evolved from Chevalier (French), Caballero (Spanish), Cavaliere (Italian)

13th Century Chivalry meant that men should honor, serve, and respect women of all ages. Knights were to be noble, in more ways than one; only the Noble class could afford the necessary assets of knighthood. Definition of Noble: Of an exalted moral or mental character or excellence. Admirable in dignity of conception, manner of expression, execution or composition.

Modern Chivalry Experiments have been conducted testing the hypothesis that more attractive people more likely to be helped more readily, receive higher positions in the work-field or be trusted, than an average looking person. One experiment was carried out using very attractive girl struggling up the stairs with a load of luggage and in a minute or so she was offered help. Another girl, more average looking did the same thing and it took at least 15 minutes before she received any assistance.
