A Journey Through The Psalms Psalm 119.3 – A Lamp For Our Path Wisdom From God A Journey Through The Psalms Psalm 119.3 – A Lamp For Our Path

Psalm 119.3: We Often Need Good Lighting Most tasks easier with good light Example: Spraying wasp nest at night Example: Dark night in Lazbuddie Our spiritual walk is only possible with proper lighting . For that light we need the word of God.

The Word Is A Lamp Psalm 119:105 – “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Two important thoughts here The Word of God is lamp/light My feet need light to find the proper path. Apart from the Word I cannot find the proper path for my feet.

Thinking About The Word As Light Psalm 119:130 – “The unfolding of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.” Simple = untrained, naïve Light = Understanding Unfolding = opening, reading, meditating, learning.

What Is This Path? The direction we take in our lives: Either toward God and heaven, or away from God and toward Hell. Psalm 119:59-60 – “I considered my ways and turned my feet to Your testimonies. I hastened and did not delay to keep Your commandments.”

We Must Choose the Proper Path Hebrews 12:12-13 – “Therefore, strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble, and make straight paths for your feet, so that the limb which is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed.” In other words: Choose God’s way as the straight way and keep from crippling yourself with bad decisions.

God’s Guidance Is Critical If we wish to please God we must follow His guidance Matthew 6:13: “And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Psalm 119:68 – “You are good and do good; teach me Your statutes.”

Following God’s Path Is A Choice Psalm 119:29-30 – “Remove the false way from me, and graciously grant me Your law. I have chosen the faithful way; I have placed Your ordinances before me.” Prayer for God to guide us into righteousness is likewise a prayer for God to remove the false way from us. We choose to follow Him and forsake the world.

Benefits Of Following The Lit Path Psalm 119:99-100 – “I have more insight than all my teachers, for Your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the aged, because I have observed Your precepts.” God’s word can make us more wise than those around us who forsake His word.

Jesus Is Our Path John 14:6 – “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” Three things promised Jesus is the way: the path that we must follow He is the truth: the word we must hear He is the life: eternal life source

Jesus As The Word Incarnate Incarnate = Deity made flesh John 1:1-3 – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.” Jesus is Word, is God, is Creator, is Eternal

So We Will Be Judged By His Word John 12:47-48 – “If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day.”

Therefore We Must Keep His Word John 14:23-24 – “Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.”

God’s Word Is The Only Source Of Truth Psalm 119:160 – “The sum of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting.” No other source has pure truth. No other book of wisdom can be said to have every single ordinance to be everlasting.

Jesus Is Our Light! His word is our path. He is our light. John 1:4-5 – “In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” FOOLISH DARKNESS! John 8:12 – “Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”

Jesus Revealed As True Light John 9:4-5 – “We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world.” When healing a blind man.

Are We Spiritually Blind? Without Jesus the answer is YES Revelation 3:17-18 – (To Laodicea) – “Because you say, ‘I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,’ and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself….and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see.”

We Need His Light Within Us Luke 11:33-36 -- “No one, after lighting a lamp, puts it away in a cellar nor under a basket, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light. The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness. Then watch out that the light in you is not darkness. If therefore your whole body is full of light, with no dark part in it, it will be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its rays.”
