Literacy and Numeracy Literacy and Numeracy occur everyday. Literacy groups operating in the classroom- Daily 5 Writing and reading skills are explicitly taught and differentiated to meet the individual needs of students. K-2 will be using handwriting books, which will be ordered shortly. Numeracy- students grouped according to ability. K-2 teachers will be undertaking TEN (Targeting Early Numeracy) training this year.

HOMEWORK to begin week 5 At the end of 2016, we reviewed the CNPS Homework Policy. From this review it was decided that the following homework will be provided for Stage 1; Home Reading should be at least 10+ minutes a day. This should be recorded on the students reading log and presented to the classroom teacher on Friday. Literacy activities such as sight words practice and speech preparation and presentation (yr 2). Open Ended Maths tasks Computer web-based programs can also be accessed from home and reinforce learning in a fun but educational way and we encourage the children to use these. Passwords will be available for use at home. Mathletics, Reading Eggs and Bug Club Quality Teaching, Quality Learning, Quality People - for the 21st Century Learner

READING IN THE CLASSROOM……….. * Every day, multiple ways 5 BIG IDEAS OF READING Hearing sounds in words, including syllables (Phonemic Awareness) Connecting sounds to letters (Phonics) Understanding what they read (Comprehension) Reading smoothly and with expression (Fluency) Understanding the meaning of words (Vocabulary Development) Quality Teaching, Quality Learning, Quality People - for the 21st Century Learner

IMPORTANT DAYS TO REMEMBER Learning Information and Research Centre - LIARC Stage 1 students will have library weekly for 40mins. Library days are yet to be decided you will be notified via a note home in the coming days. Please ensure that your child has a library bag ready for borrowing. PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWs- End of Term 1. Information will be forthcoming SCRIPTURE Thursdays SPORT – Fridays, please ensure this is the only day children are to wear their sports uniform and sports shoes. Black school shoes with correct uniform every other day. Wide Brim Hat must be worn during sport lessons. Stage 1 have Gymnastics every Friday. Kindergarten will begin, years 1 and 2 to follow in term 2. K-2 ASSEMBLY – Fortnightly Thursday 2.20pm – parents welcome YR 2 Choir - in preparation for SSSM - training days to be advised Quality Teaching, Quality Learning, Quality People - for the 21st Century Learner

Class Requirements/Information Please remember to bring the class requirements to school. They should be presented to the class teacher. A library bag and art shirt are also required. Class specific information
