Why go to College: Reason 1: -Every bit of education you get after high school increases the chances you’ll earn good pay. Most college graduates earn a lot more money during their working years than people who stop their education in high school.

Why go to College Reason 2: -Continuing education after high school is much more important for your generation than it was for your parents’ generation. Today, most good jobs require more than a high school diploma. Businesses want to hire people who know how to think and solve problems.

Why go to College: Reason 3: -Education beyond high school gives you a lot of other benefits, including meeting new people, taking in new opportunities to explore your interest and experiencing success www.knowhow2go.org

Activity Carlos graduated from Palm Springs High School and went to work at Taco Bell. He began making only $9.00 an hour (that’s minimum wage), but after a year, he got a raise and is now making $9.50 an hour. Carlos works 40 hours a week. How much does Carlos make a month?

How much does Carlos make a month? $9.00/hour x 40 hours $360/week $360/week X 4 weeks $1,440/month

How much does Carlos make a month? However, taxes have to be taken out of his check every week. Most people earning what he earns pay 15% taxes. How much is he left with after taxes? 15% of $1,440 = $216.00 $1,440 - $216.00 = $1,224

Monthly expenses & bills Carlos loves in a one-bed room apartment and pays $500 rent. His electric bill is $40 a month, his phone bill is $70 a month, his car payment is $200 a month and he gives his mom and dad $200 a month to help them out. How much does Carlos have left for his food, clothes, laundry, and car gasoline, repair bills and car insurance?

What’s Carlos’ budget? $ 1,224 - $500 - $40 - $70 - $200 - $200 = $214.00 for the month OR $53.50 a week

What if Carlos had gone to college? If Carlos had gone to college, graduated and gone to work in Taco Bell’s headquarters, he would be making a lot more money. Marketing Director over $1,500 a week Accountant $900 a week
