Physical Features Subcontinent- A large landmass that is joined to a continent. Tectonic Forces are mostly responsible for the development of South Asia Himalaya Mountains Home of Mt Everest World’s highest Peak

Physical Features Indus River- Flows through Pakistan. Home to one of the earliest civilizations in the world. Brahmaputra River- Major river allows for inland navigation. Ships can travel up to 800 miles inland.

Physical Features Ganges River- Most important river in South Asia. Known as Mother Ganges. Provides for physical needs Spiritual heart of Hindu Faith

Physical Features Ganges River- Many Hindu bathe in the Ganges for spiritual purposes. India’s population of over 1 Billion contributes to pollution of Ganges. One of the most polluted water sources in the world.

Climate Most of South Asia is a tropical climate. Rain Forest Savanna. The North-east is Humid Subtropical. Just like East Texas/Louisiana.

Monsoons Besides the Himalayas, the Monsoons are a defining physical characteristic of South Asia. Torrential rains that bring extreme flooding.

Monsoons Are the result of seasonal winds that bring moisture off the coast. Dry winds in winter blow moisture back to the ocean. Can the people of India prevent the Monsoons? If not, what do they do?
