ENLIGHTENMENT PHILOSOPHERS REVIEW MR. MITCHELL

THOMAS HOBBES PEOPLE ARE EVIL A STRONG ABSOLUTE RULER IS NEEDED TO CONTROL THE PEOPLE. AN EXAMPLE WOULD BE AN ABSOLUTE MONARCH (KING OR QUEEN) OR A DICTATOR (HITLER) DID NOT CONTRIBUTE TO USA DECLARATION OR CONSTITUTION

JOHN LOCKE PEOPLE ARE SELFISH, BUT REASONABLE. THEY WILL COOPERATE AND ACT IN AN ORDERLY MANNER. GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE ESTABLISHED BY THE PEOPLE (DEMOCRACY) GOVERNMENTS JOB IS TO PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF LIFE, LIBERTY AND PROPERTY. IDEA IS WRITTEN INTO THE DECLARATION.

JEAN JACQUES ROUSSEAU PEOPLE ARE NATURALLY GOOD BUT CIVILIZATION MAKES THEM BAD. BELIEVED ALL MEN ARE EQUAL BELIEVED IN GOVERNMENT ESTABLISHED BY THE MAJORITY USED IN THE CONSTITUTION UNDER MOST VOTING PROCEDURES

BARON DE MONTESQIEU BELIEVED THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE MADE UP OF HONORABLE MEN. GOVERNMENT SHOULD HAVE THREE SEPARATE HOUSES --- EXECUTIVE, LEGISLATIVE AND JUDICIARY. EACH HOUSE SHOULD HAVE CHECKS AND BALANCES ON THE OTHER.

CONCLUSION ALL PHILOSOPHERS EXCEPT HOBBES ADDED TO EITHER THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE OR THE US CONSTITUTION. IN GENERAL THE PHILOSOPHERS BELIEVED IN PROGRESS FOR SOCIETY.
