Specialized Skills Include skills that make you unique, such as computer skills, foreign language skills, or military service. Be specific in describing your special skills; name computer programs you know, how long you studied a foreign language, or your dates of military service. Key Concept: Like the activities and honors section of the resume, this section should be included only if the applicant has some significant skill in addition to those expected of the profession. If an applicant has a special skill, they can use this section to stand out from other applicants. Applicants should not include skills that are required or expected for applicants to have.

Sample Skills Section COMPUTER SKILLS Experienced with Macintosh, IBM PC, Windows XP, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Publisher LANGUAGES Bilingual Spanish and English

References References are available upon request Centered at bottom Sboyer Update: 1-18-17 References References are available upon request Centered at bottom Choose references that are knowledgeable about your skills, abilities, and work ethics. Former employers, teachers, and counselors would be good references, your friends and relatives would not. SHOOT FOR 3 Always obtain permission from references in advance and provide them with current resume Key Concept: Many times job ads will specify whether or not employers want the names and addresses of applicants’ references included on the resume. Applicants should read job ads carefully to determine how to present their references for any given job. It is a good idea for applicants to compile a separate reference sheet that they can send out along with their resume if references are requested.

Sample References REFERENCES Sboyer Update: 1-18-17 Sample References REFERENCES Julie Ford, English Teacher, Cartersville High School, 770-382-3200 Bob Jones, Supervisor, Valley State Bank, 407-889-2345 REFERENCES Julie Ford Bob Jones English Teacher Supervisor Cartersville High School Valley State Bank 770-382-3200 404-889-2345 Key Concept: Applicants should not assume that someone is willing to serve as a reference for them, and they should definitely contact their references before including them on the reference sheet. It is also helpful for applicants to briefly describe how they know a reference on the reference sheet, so that the employer will know the kind of information a given reference can provide.

References on Separate Page CHRIS SMITH 83 Prospect Road  Orlando, FL 32837 (407) 555-8975  ChrisSmith@msn.com ___________________________________________________________ REFERENCES Julie Ford, English Teacher, Cartersville High School, 770-382-3200 Bob Jones, Supervisor, Valley State Bank, 404-325-9865 Milford Smith, Youth Minister, Tabernacle Baptist Church, 404-859-8596 Sboyer Update: 1-18-17 References on Separate Page Reference page should have IDENTICAL Header as resume.

A resume does get you an interview. Proofread! Proofread! Proofread! Remember Sboyer Update: 1-18-17 Always submit a cover letter with your resume A resume does not get you a job… A resume does get you an interview. And, putting time and consideration into your resume is one of the best ways to prepare for your interviews! Proofread! Proofread! Proofread!
