Thesis A thesis statement contains a central idea that is supported by the research you have collected. Your thesis statement will typically indicate your point of view and it should be a statement that can be supported by various kinds of evidence.
Thesis Statement Checklist ✔ Will my thesis allow me to write a paper that will fulfill my assignment? ✔ Is my thesis sharply focused and sufficiently limited? ✔ Have I stated it concisely, in a sentence my readers will understand?
Body Paragraphs Constructed Response Format: Topic Sentence Your Example (This comes from the information card. You will cite this information.) Concluding Sentence Citations: Cite Direct Quotes AND Paraphrases/Summaries. Put Quotation Marks around Direct Quotes. Include 1-2 cards per body paragraph. Need a minimum of FOUR citations for the entire essay. Tip: Don’t just CUT-AND-PASTE your research. Your ideas are the most important part. The research just supports your work. To help you do this, you might start writing without looking at your research cards. Then go back and include an information card AFTER the basic paragraph is written.
Conclusion Restate your thesis. Answer the question “So What?” In other words, what is the overall importance of this information that you’ve just written about? Basically, offer the reader a future prediction. Because the paper is about your career choice, you will want to write about whether or not this career is still for you and what your hopes are for the future. To Do List: DUE TUESDAY Write Conclusion—above is a slide with directions. Work on Essay—this is your first priority (do the FIRST). The essay is due Wednesday (typed and ready to go). We might not get the computer lab. Therefore, for homework tonight, you need to finish your essay. Worksheet—if you are done with your essay, then work on the St. Patrick’s Day Worksheet. Other: Common Assessment Retakes—that must be completed before you leave for Spring Break. Be sure to review Root Words. You will need to turn in your Outline with your paper.
Works Cited Page Include an entry for every source used in your paper. Remember: You are to have used at least THREE Sources (ONE being a Print Source). Format: Center Title (which is Works Cited) Double Space First line flush with left margin; indent 2nd line (and so on) for each entry. Header/Page # (last page of paper; doesn’t count with word count).
