CONTACT DETAILS

The information sheet should be completed and returned to school. It is vital that we have contact numbers for both parents and a responsible adult.

HOLIDAYS

Consider carefully before deciding to take your children out of school during term time.

PREPARING FOR SCHOOL

PREPARING YOUR CHILD FOR SCHOOL Your positive attitude to school is vital. Try not to use school as a threat. Try not to give a negative outlook. In Glengormley Integrated Primary we try to take a positive approach, by encouraging good work and good behaviour. POSITIVE rather than NEGATIVE.

PROBLEMS Please inform the school if your child has any disabilities or problems, including hearing and eyesight. Any change in home life may upset your child. It is essential we are made aware of anything significant and we will treat any information given in confidence. Teachers and parents should be working together, to ensure a happy and confident introduction to school.

INDEPENDENCE Put on/take off their own coat. Change clothing and shoes for PE. Manage their own school bag. Manage on their own at the toilet. We hope the children would be able to:

FIRST DAYS You can help prepare your child for school: Talk about events, so that he/she can express themselves clearly. Encourage him/her to listen carefully and follow instructions. BOOKS are great for stimulating discussion, and for developing concentration. Spend individual time with your child.

Counting games. Colouring in. Tracing. Playing with plasticine. Using scissors (supervised).

HANDWRITING Habits of incorrect pencil grips and incorrect formation of letters are VERY VERY hard to change. There must be consistency between what is taught in school and work that is done at home. Handwriting policy and handouts will be in your folder.

The statutory curriculum in the Foundation Stage is set out under the following areas of learning: Language and Literacy Mathematics and Numeracy The Arts The World Around Us Personal Development & Mutual Understanding Physical Development & Movement Religious Education (as specified by DENI) You will find copies of leaflets for parents on each of the above areas of learning (except R.E.) on the school website. They include ideas of how you can help your child in each of the subject areas.

Here are some of the activities your child will be engaged in.
