Web 2.0 tools for your teaching and learning programme

VoiceThread Collaboration Critical thinking Social networking and feedback Peer evaluation Visual story telling http://voicethread.com

VoiceThread Browse and type in a category Student Voice “the individual and collective perspective and actions of young people within the context of learning and education.” (wikipedia). Can showcase video or still images for voice or text based comment. http://voicethread.com

VoiceThread Case study: “The Hustle” a student assignment presentation received to date 1950 views, 39 voice feedback comments. See the link I have provided to view it for yourself. This is not an example of best practice, but of successful response in student practice. http://voicethread.com

VoiceThread Click on register at the top, then click on register in this box Fill in the details (not the same as mine!), then click ‘register’

VoiceThread Upload a picture of you (called an avitar) from your computer Find a presentation, view it, click on your photo, press record and follow the instructions. You can make a text comment too. Easy as that! If you don’t have an avitar, it will just show a silhouette. Need a microphone for voice comments, or you can just put in a text comment.

VoiceThread Comments Pages http://voicethread.com/share/103847/ See this exemplar:  The format is a good general model using still images instead of movies (which do take time to load). We have provided a direct link for you at the LINKS tool bar Pages http://voicethread.com/share/103847/

VoiceThread Try making your own voice thread, by following their simple instructions. Just click on CREATE. NB: We don’t recommend using it  to invite people from your supplied addresses, as it won’t accept some school addresses (especially with non english words in them – eg: Maori). When it sends the email invite, it looks so much like spam that we think it will be crunched immediately. Easier to cut and paste the url into our own email.

VoiceThread When you want to add your page, you have to use the edit function that looks like a metal cog on the bottom right of the picture thumbnail. Good luck putting your page on. Not hard once you have had a go. But it needs practice. You can change the order of the slides. Also you can deactivate the comment section for just viewing the presentation (say for school projects).

VoiceThread Possible uses for the Arts: Focus question for a community of practice Critical feedback Documentation of a performance Researching a topic Questionnaire or polls Self review diary Embed into a Wiki, Blog, or social networking site Student voices Peer assessment or evaluation Recording an Arts presentation Documenting an Arts process with self review comments Collecting data from the Arts community

Web 2.0 tools for your teaching and learning programme Next presentation will be on Social Bookmarking web 2.0 tools (delicious for example), that will show you how to store and access website material easily.
