Long-Term Goals: Enhance research excellence in the social and behavioral sciences Enhance competitiveness for extramural funding in the social and behavioral sciences Enhance collaborations between social scientists and natural scientists to solve societal challenges
Mission Statement: The Mission of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Research Initiative at the University of Nebraska is to promote excellence in the behavioral and social sciences in order to solve societal problems and disseminate the findings to scientists, the public, and policy makers. We shall conduct research and train future generations of social and behavioral scientists in a collaborative environment of multidisciplinary expertise and resources.
Summary of Activities: Co-Leaders and Task Force Meetings (ongoing) Kick-Off Luncheon (June) Meetings with Chairs and Directors (September) Faculty Survey (October-November) Research Council Meeting (October) Research Fair (November)
Future Plans: Summarize key findings from the Research Fair Analyze results of faculty survey Identify potential priority research themes for future faculty forums Invite leading researchers associated with these themes to present and consult Consider establishment of a Research Data Center (RDC)
Future Plans: Draft white paper describing what was learned with vision/recommendations for future Share and discuss white paper (e.g., faculty forums, retreat) Finalize white paper and make plans for implementation of recommendations
