6th Graders in ESOL Class
Why am I going to an ESOL center? Students who are still in the process of learning English receive help from ESOL teachers. Not every middle school has ESOL, so ESOL students attend middle schools where there are ESOL teachers.
What Classes Will I have? ESOL classes are here to support you! If you know only a little English, you will have more ESOL classes to help you. As your English develops, you will have fewer ESOL classes. Your ESOL classes will develop your skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing with an emphasis on developing your vocabulary. We choose your non-ESOL classes carefully so you will be with teachers who are familiar with working with ESOL students and will be able to help you learn the content and develop your language skills at the same time. Let’s look at some possible schedules…
For our newer students… Newcomer Schedule Math ESOL Writing 1 Science ESOL American Culture (in place of World Cultures) Special Area Classes: Physical Education (Gym), Art, Music ESOL Language Arts – with an ESOL teacher More Special Area Classes or Math again for a second period
For our more proficient students Intermediate Level Schedule Math ESOL Writing 2 Science World Cultures Special Area Classes: Physical Education (Gym), Art, Music ESOL Language Arts – with an ESOL teacher More Special Area classes or Math again for a second period
For our advanced level students Intermediate Level Schedule Math ESOL Writing 3 Science World Cultures Special Area Classes: Physical Education (Gym), Art, Music Language Arts More Special Area classes or Math again for a second period
How will I get to school every day? You will take a bus! You will receive transportation information as soon as the school receives the information from transportation late in August.
Where will I keep my stuff ?
What makes Dundalk Middle School something to “hoot” “hoot” about? We have 235 ESOL students from 26 countries speaking 21 languages! We are a PBIS school, and our students earn hoots for being responsible, respectful, and safe.
What is there to do for fun? Green Club Clubs STEM Club
Sports Badminton Basketball Tennis Track and Field Cross Country Lacrosse
Can I come visit the school? Yes! We can’t wait to meet you and your family! Thursday June 8th, 5:30-6:30 Take a tour of your new school. Talk with some of our current sixth grade students who will talk to you about what their year was like. Meet your new guidance counselor.
What is next ? Make sure you prove residency, like all incoming 6th grade students have to do. You can provide the proof of residency to your school, and then you don’t have to come register at Dundalk Middle School. If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Chavis at 410 887-7018. To the ESOL teacher – please make sure the guidance counselor or secretary have Dundalk Middle School as the school the student is being promoted to in SIS and make sure the cumulative folder is flagged to be sent to Dundalk Middle. Thank you!!!
