Who was Engleburt Dollfuss? Dollfuss was the Chancellor of Austria in 1932. What did he do? He shut down the Austrian parliament and banned the Austrian Nazi party. He made friends with Mussolini and started to become the dictator of Austria. How did Hitler respond? In 1934, Hitler told Nazis in Austria to cause chaos. They did so and also killed Dolfuss. So was Austria now part of Germany as a result? No, the Austrian army continued to support the government, not Hitler and the Nazis. Also, Mussolini moved his Italian troops and promised to intervene if Hitler tried to achieve Anschluss.
