Capitalization & Punctuation By: Brooke

Capitalization Things you capitalize: The first word of a sentence. The names of people. The names of cities and towns. “I”

Capitalization The dog chased the cat. Where is the book? Always capitalize the first word of a sentence. The dog chased the cat. Where is the book? My cat is scared!

Capitalization Capitalize the names of people. My teacher’s name is Beth Frazier. Where is Emily? I have two dogs named Grady and Emma.

Capitalization Capitalize the names of cities and towns. Brooke lives in Haleyville. My daughter goes to school at Auburn. Hannah lives in Montgomery.

Capitalize “I” Always capitalize “I”. I like to play outside. I am 15 years old. Trey and I are having fun.

Punctuation Always put a period, question mark, or exclamation point at the end of a sentence. The boy is nice. period Are you ready to go? question mark Way to go! exclamation point

Period Use a period if you just want to say something. I like your shirt. Tomorrow is my birthday. My favorite color is blue.

Question Mark Use a question mark if you want to ask a question. What is your name? Do you have a dog? How old is Alexis?

Exclamation Point Use an exclamation point when you are excited or you want to yell something. I love chocolate! Happy Birthday! Wow!
