How to build a computer By: Sandra V. Padilla 9/22/2018 OECS 290 Spring 2004

Items needed: Tool kit: Floppy Drive CDROM Drive Cables Hard Drive CPU Motherboard Case 9/22/2018 OECS 290 Spring 2004

Tool kit Screwdrivers, pliers, tweezers, extractors, etc. will help you to build a PC. Touch metal to avoid static damage to your equipment and use non-magnetic tools. This is a typical toolkit you can use to perform maintenance duties. 9/22/2018 OECS 290 Spring 2004

Floppy drive This drive is for 1.44 MB floppy discs for extra and/or This is a floppy drive for 1.44 MB floppy discs. This drive is for 1.44 MB floppy discs for extra and/or portable storage. I am connecting the ribbon cable and the wire cable before I insert it into it’s slot. You are looking at the back end of it. 9/22/2018 OECS 290 Spring 2004

CDROM drive I am sliding the CDROM into the slot and then I will connect the cables from behind. It fits real snug in the metal frame. You can replace this with a read write CD/DVD ROM as well. This is a CDROM drive for CDs. It is not a read write. 9/22/2018 OECS 290 Spring 2004

Internal Cables CDROM internal cables. Floppy cables. The cables connect things inside as well as outside to the power supply and other external devices such as printers, zip drives, cameras, etc. Cables for the zip drive, case, and floppy drive. 9/22/2018 OECS 290 Spring 2004

CPU The CPU is in the right lower corner (left.) For illustration I am using a non-static bracelet and holding a sound card. The bracelet can also be clipped to the case of the PC to be grounded at all times. The CPU 9/22/2018 OECS 290 Spring 2004

This is the motherboard. It attaches securely to the case. The motherboard of the PC. 9/22/2018 OECS 290 Spring 2004

Case The outer case keeps internal and built-in devices nice and neat. I am tightening the screw to keep it in place. It slips in and then you press it down to align the hole for the screw. The case contains everything but the zip drive. 9/22/2018 OECS 290 Spring 2004
