DISCOVERY A new way to search for articles and other information DISCOVERY makes it possible to search all the library databases including our catalog

Go to our Team page: www.cchosp.com/team>Health Care Library> Discovery Tool to search all databases at once Next is a view of the interface of DISCOVERY

Let’s do a search Let As you can see the databases aren’t visible. If you want to see what they are, go to Databases for Literature Searching. Our Library catalog and electronic books are also included. Let’s do a search Let

Now we click on search! Search example: Diabetes, Diet and Exercise. We put the following limits on the search: Linked Full Text, Peer Reviewed, English Language and Published Date. Now we click on search!

There is more to DISCOVERY than this though…. As you can see we got 374 citations. They all have our limits and are full text. Some are exactly what we were looking for, but many include aspects that we don’t need. You can browse through the articles and see if you find enough articles that support your search. You can also exclude what you don’t want like this: There is more to DISCOVERY than this though…. Look at the search screen on the next slide and you will find these “widgets”- Rehabilitation Reference Center, Nursing@Ovid and PubMed. The same search has already been performed on those databases. Let’s have a look!

Click on “Search” under Rehabilitation Reference Center Click on “Search” under Rehabilitation Reference Center. Can you use any of those citations?

Likewise, click on search under Nursing@Ovid

PubMed is another option PubMed is another option. You may find some articles pertinent to you search here. However, PubMed is best to search by itself and has few full-text articles.

You can also search the library catalog from Discovery. Remember to search broad categories – for Chicken Pox, search Pediatrics.

A search for Diabetes gives you this result from the Catalog: 14 hits. On this page 2 DVDs and one paperbook

Surgical instruments or just instruments give you electronic books – EB before the call number.

In the dark blue bar at the top of the search page There’s more: In the dark blue bar at the top of the search page you will find more useful information. Publications: Here you can get a list of journals, some of which have full text articles Preferences: Here you can save all limits that you usually would apply to a search Ask-A-Librarian: Email us a question, request an article or book, or ask us anything related to the library.

As always, we are here to help We hope that searching this way will give you much more information and many more articles than just searching one single database at a time. Happy Searching As always, we are here to help should you need it. Inger and Ginny library@cchosp.com 7/15
