Educator Effectiveness Time: 30 secs Quick Introductions (Name, Title and Division) Kelly Burling PRESENTERS: Stefan Kohler

Time: 1:00 min Teacher and administrative leaders continue to be under immense pressure and accountability to show student achievement. No matter what or how you represent the Pearson programs in your tool bag, we can all agree that the fidelity of implementation of that program will not happen without strong leadership and teachers. Strong leadership and teachers have shown they can sometimes make a weak solution successful but weak leadership and teachers usually make any strong efficacy based solution fail. Therefore everyone of you at one time or another runs across the need for strong educator effectiveness when you partner with districts or states. Educator Effectiveness

Time: 1:30 Given the importance of educator effectiveness, we would like you to take away three outcomes from this presentation. One. Understand the challenges of today’s districts and states so you have the knowledge to discuss them when talking to leaders. Two, Pearson has a complete solution to improving and implementing educator effectiveness such as observation, evaluation, measurement and training. This complete solutions can also be broken up and used as integrated solutions into many of our Pearson programs Three, there are improvements, partnerships and technology enhancements to last year’s solution that give us a uniqueness that no other competitors presently have. As you need support in these areas, please contact Kelly or myself to support your specific needs. Educator Effectiveness

Update numbers and graph above. Time: 1:00 min The demand for educator effectiveness continues to rise. Many states now have teacher effectiveness plans in place and now are focusing on implementing similar measurements for administrative leaders. XX number of states now have teacher evaluations in place that are dependent on teacher evaluations and student results on standardized tests. Update numbers and graph above. RTTT 40 States and DC submitted RttT applications with sections on Great Teachers and Leaders 37 Described evaluation systems 33 Have or proposed to develop systems to measure student growth as part of educator evaluations 11 RTTT states are required to implement them 20 additional states are in the process Additional districts doing it independently not captured in this model Educator Effectiveness

Time: 1:00 min Educator Effectiveness has many pieces and Pearson has a complete solution. Brief recap of Brainshark- it primarily boils down to… list of products and services for each of the major categories Let’s first hear from state and district leaders on their challenges in implementing Educator Effectiveness. Educator Effectiveness

Time: 4 mins (Kentucky Case Study - 3 min video, 1 min summary) Picture of Dr. Cummings-Smith along with outline of state of Kentucky. First, let’s hear from Felicia Cummings-Smith, associate commissioner of KY DOE on challenges at the state level and our Pearson partnership. Dr. Cummings-Smith summarized the states and districts challenges in four key points: Ensure effective teachers and leaders are in place within the district or state Utilize effective tools and frameworks to measure teachers Implement with fidelity the educator effectiveness model Incorporate exemplary lessons and PD for both teachers and leaders Educator Effectiveness

Video: (First Teacher Video – Crazy Kids time: 3 mns) These challenges can be over whelming. Here is a short video showing in Hollywood what happens when teachers just don’t get it right. Educator Effectiveness

Which we just discussed. Time: 1 min The challenges of state and district leaders in the area of Educator Effectiveness touches each one of you when selling Pearson programs. And in the end, the customer at times points the finger at Pearson for selling them programs that did not result in the outcomes desired. Remember, two of the three outcomes of our presentation was the following: First. Understand the challenges of today’s districts so you have the knowledge to discuss them when talking to leaders. Which we just discussed. The second is: Two, Pearson has a complete solution to improving and implementing educator effectiveness such as observation, evaluation, measurement and training. This complete solutions can also be sold as individual solutions, as well as integrated with many Pearson programs Any leader is going to need strong leadership, strong PD, to ensure these programs are the right solutions, to ensure that they are implemented well, and to monitor implementation Time: 1:00 min What you presently sell Pearson offers a wide range of services to fulfill the educator effectiveness market. [Our administrator training allows districts to understand their data better, understand the components of successful evaluation systems, and especially inter-rater reliability training. ] NOT SURE THAT THIS SENTENCE BELONGS HERE Let’s expand with two case studies how Pearson solutions can help. Educator Effectiveness

What is Project One? Third-party Student Information Systems Instructional Content & Learning Management Systems Grade Book/ Parent Portal Third-party Bridge to Project Core Interoperability IDENTITY, CONTENT & DATA State Reporting & Data Systems Instructional Improvement System Time: 30 seconds Image of Huntsville – try to take a slide from the 1:1 break-out presentation. The first is the Transition to Digital break out. Let’s link together what you have or will learn about Pearson’s 1:1 solution with our Educator Effectiveness solutions. LEADERSHIP THAT IMPACTS STUDENT PERFORMAN CE Lyle Kirtman Dr. Robert Marzano Dr. Michael Fullan LEADERSHIP THAT IMPACTS STUDENT PERFORMAN CE Time: (On-Line with Principal Compass: 2 mins) We know that it takes strong leadership to implement a district wide 1:1 initiative and digital transformation process.  It also takes strong leadership to sustain such an implementation.  Through our Principal Compass program and authorship team, we can now help develop the skills school leaders need. Our EE leadership training is part of the Huntsville and almost all 1:1 contracts in the form of Principal Compass. I want to then log on, quickly show the rubric and one development presentation in 30 seconds. It doesn’t have to be 1:1, it can be any district wide implementation that you are working on. Educator Effectiveness

New Leaders / Pearson Partnership Time: 30 secs We’ve recently enhanced our ability to developed effective school leaders through a partnership with New Leaders, a nationally respected organization that is known for its strong principal development program. Educator Effectiveness

Professional Development New Leaders / Pearson Principal Development System Rubric Case Studies Evaluator Training Effective use of evidence Importance of feedback Evaluation Process Principal Compass Growth Courses Professional Development Time: 1 min Through the partnership with New Leaders, we can now offer our customers a more complete principal development system. We can train principal evaluators to use New Leaders highly acclaimed evidence-focused rubric to observe for desired leadership behaviors that, through our partnership will be enhanced to better facilitate effective evaluations, and to provide principals with the feedback and professional development they need to grow into more effective school leaders. The PD will include self-paced online content as well as cohort-based interactive online courses led by Leadership experts. This type of solution can not only be used in Huntsville but any large district implementation such as our new iLit, EnVision Math or Reading Street. Educator Effectiveness

Time: (On Line with Principal Compass - 1.30 min) In addition to leadership tools in Huntsville, they are also using teacher compass. This tool allows you to put in place observation tools not just for teacher evaluation but we will be putting rubrics in place to show if the 1:1 or classroom technology tools are being appropriately used in the classroom. Go on line and show observation rubric – 30 seconds You can put in place these rubrics for any district wide implementation at the classroom level. There are presently rubrics for Reading Street and EnVision math within Teacher Compass. Show that rubric also. Educator Effectiveness

Time: (On-line with EDS system - 1.30 mins) Teacher Compass can be separate or integrated with Schoolnet. The Pearson PD Library – over 3000 videos on a wide range of PD topics – is now distributed with the Schoolnet EDS.  Using Schoolnet’s PD Planner, clients can now align the Pearson PD library with their local teaching standards, allowing teachers to review best-practice videos of practitioners for each area of development.  Using the EDS, administrators can recommend PD to teachers as part of their observation process Show 30 seconds on what is in there presently by logging into the EDS system. Educator Effectiveness

Time: 10 secs We have a TN state wide contract to implement the full teacher evaluation process. Educator Effectiveness

Time: 30 secs There we helped a local consortium of school districts to bring TIGER to market. TIGER, the Teacher Instructional Growth for Effectiveness and Results system is unique in that it’s not simply a teacher performance evaluation tool. Rather it was designed to help teachers progress from one level of expertise to the next through clear expectations and with specific growth support tools. TIGER’s underlying philosophy is that teacher effectiveness is not just a single reachable point in one’s classroom career. Instead, increasingly higher levels, or stages of “effectiveness” can be reached through experience, training, and especially, constructive feedback. Educator Effectiveness

Observations & Common Core Time: 20 secs Transition slide: The first case study showed how Pearson not only provided a complete solution like TN but also pieces of our educator effectiveness solution with both observation and evaluations tools with PD for both teachers and administrators. We wanted to tie I these tools with what you saw or will see in the Transition to Digital break-out today. The second case study is around common core to tie in the Implementation of the Common Core break-out you will go through. Educator Effectiveness

Implementing Instructional Change through Pearson’s Common Core Mathematics and Literacy Observation Frameworks and Coaching Tools Common Core Common Core Time: 30 secs We created the Common Core Observation Frameworks for Math and Literacy because we saw that many districts weren’t deliberately making the connection between adopting “common standards” – aka the Common Core State Standards – and the development of effective educators. These two areas need to be linked for a couple of reasons: Educator Effectiveness

Common Core “Look Fors” For Math and ELA Observation Tool Time: 1 min 1. First, the clinical reason: The adoption of common standards and educator effectiveness represent two of the four pillars of the original RTTT legislation.  In other words, the adoption of common standards and the development of educator effectiveness were inherently linked from the beginning of their recent emphasis. 2. But perhaps more importantly is the reason of classroom practice: Most districts probably assume that they can simply continue to use their current pre-Common Core rubric, which outlines generic teaching behaviors, but not the instructional practices that are needed to help students develop the academic behaviors that reflect College and Career Readiness.   Educator Effectiveness

Common Core “Look Fors” Coaching Tool Time: 1 min While this belief is understandable in one sense – many districts still wrongly see the CCSS as primarily shifts in content rather than as shifts in content and shifts in student and teacher behavior – its incumbent upon us to ask district leaders: How can you use a rubric that was developed before the Common Core to observe for instructional behaviors that should be coming about as a result of its implementation?  That is to say, if you’re adopting standards that, in part, call for students to perform very differently in class than they have before, wouldn’t your instruction have to change to encourage that student behavior?  And if your instruction changes, wouldn’t your observation rubric have to reflect that? Educator Effectiveness

SMP: Standards for Mathematical Practice Time: 1.30 min We are the only publisher that has put these two initiative together: the adoption of the Common Core and an observation rubric that more accurately helps administrators look for the desired instructional behaviors that will support the Common Core’s implementation. Note: SMP: Standards for Mathematical Practice Probably not as obvious as it could be.  In the sales demo account (Elmhurst), they’re listed under Classroom Observation type and titled:   The Pearson Common Literacy Observation Tool The Pearson Common Mathematics Observation Tool I’ll have these changed to be under type Common Core by the sales meeting.
