Making Applications for Legal Work Experience Welcome to session to help you in your applications Session will be approx 1 hour Learning outcomes are that by the end of this session you will: Know what makes a good application Describe appropriate CV content and format

We will cover: BHCC work experience What makes a good application? CV content and format How we can help Purpose of the session is to give you an overview of how to make good quality legal applications. Will also talk about the scheme.

Brighton & Hove City Council Legal Work Experience What is it? What types of opportunities will be available? How do I apply? Deadline March 8th masonhayes@sussex.ac.uk

BHCC Legal work experience Brighton & Hove City Council’s Legal Services Department is once again offering unpaid work experience opportunities to the University of Sussex’s Law students. They are offering 1 week's work experience for 3 different students in the following teams: Litigation/SES Team - includes social and educational services. A third-year student is preferred and the Team is unable to take any student raised in the city; Property Team - conveyancing and leases including commercial leases; Environment - deals with legal issues relating to Town and Country Planning, Highways (including Rights of Way) and Assets of Community Value 1. Employment Litigation and advice: (i) Contentious: (a) acting for the Council in defending claims brought before the Employment Tribunal by council officer or teachers employed by the Council as Local Education Authority; (b) advising the Council’s internal appeals panel (comprising councillors) hearing appeals by employees against management findings relating to dismissal, discrimination and grievances; (ii) Non-contentious: advice to the Council’s HR Team on all aspects of employment law and policy, including industrial relations; training to HR managers on new and emerging areas of employment law. 2. Commercial Law – property and contracts 3. 3. Environment and Public Law – this includes planning, highways and corporate law == Please note: These work experience opportunities are open to current University of Sussex undergraduate Law students.
