A vision is ………

Visioning “A vision is like a lighthouse, which illuminates rather than limits, giving direction rather than destination.”

VISION “Vision isn’t forecasting the future; It is creating the future by taking action in the present.”

Strategic Business Planning for Commercial Producers Strategic Direction Strategic Business Planning for Commercial Producers Vision vs. Mission The vision is more broad and future oriented. “the goal on the horizon” The mission is more focused. “how you will get to the horizon” The vision you have may not be achieved, but it is the overarching thing you aspire to. The mission adds specificity to a vision. There are no numbers associated with a vision or mission – these are long term activities. The details will be set forth in goals and objectives (discussed in a later presentation). © Purdue University, Center for Food and Agricultural Business, 2002

VISION AND ACTION Vision without Action is daydreaming. Action without Vision is drudgery / busy work. Vision with Action is Leadership.

4 VISION LEVELS 1. Some people never see it.(They are Wanderers) 2. Some people see it but never pursue it on their own. (They are Followers) 3. Some people see it and pursue it. (They are Achievers) 4. Some people see it, pursue it and help others see it. (They are Leaders)
