Weekly Classroom Newsletter October 17, 2013 Miss Sawyer 610-489-5000 ext. 42506 (A) or 43109 (W) lsawyer@methacton.org Weekly Classroom Newsletter AA Glance at our Week Sight Words: a & and Ask us each day how we had to spell our sight words. Letters: B This week we learned the letter B, for ball, bus, and bear. We read the story ,The Bubble Factory by Tomie DePaolo. We practiced writing B as both a upper and lower case. Please practice this with us at home!. Math: Shapes, Directions & Numbers We spent a lot of time this week learning the names of the shapes. We made collages of purple shapes just like Harold did in the book, Harold and the Purple Crayon. For more practice we tried to guess what shape was in a bag by using our sense of touch to feel the sides of the shape. The class learned some new directions vocabulary words such as: beside, above, below , etc. We then practiced using some of these words to follow directions. Finally we finished off the week practicing with numbers. Our goal was to recognize the number, and be able to read the number, then to count the right number of spaces. ELA: Our class celebrated Columbus Day by reading a story about this famous part of our countries history and discussing its importance. Did you see our pictures of what our Mommy’s do while we go to school? We read a story called, What will Mommy do while I am at School?, then we made predictions about what our mom’s do. Our class also spent some time practicing workstations. During workstations, we practiced skills like rhyming, our sight words, letter sounds, and so much more!
